philosophy

The ensemble l’arte del mondo stands for the creation, development and realisation of musical projects in which cultures, forms of artistic expression and eras meet. Ensemble and team under the artistic direction of Werner Ehrhardt bring music to a broad audience in an exciting and experience-oriented form.

Music, dance and literature of different epochs, regions and genres Under the umbrella of l’arte del mondo, different elements combine to form an overall concept: music, dance and literature of different epochs, regions and genres are brought closer to the audience by renowned as well as young international artists from different cultures.

The encounter

l’arte del mondo starts where the normal concert business ends. Based on a poetic concert idea, stories of encounters are told. Encounters of different kinds between cultural circles, different periods of music history or artistic genres.

Historical performance practice as a basis for new ways

In the projects of l’arte del mondo, historical performance practice and the richness of sound of old instruments play a central role. l’arte del mondo sees this return to musical tradition as an ideal basis for emotional and sensual encounters with new music and other forms of artistic expression. Starting from this basis, the musicians, together with their artistic director Werner Ehrhardt, are constantly breaking new ground, from classical music to romanticism on modern instruments, to collaborations in the field of jazz with artists like Uri Caine.

The ensemble l’arte del mondo, founded in 2004 by artistic director Werner Ehrhardt, sees itself in the tradition of so-called early music. This is the starting point of the ensemble, which is equally committed to working on modern instruments and repertoire up to the Romantic period. Soon after its foundation, invitations to renowned festivals and concert series such as the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, the Bonn Beethovenfest, the Konzerthaus Berlin or the cité de la musique in Paris as well as cooperations with the WDR and Deutschlandfunk followed. In cooperation with the CD label Capriccio, the interesting work of this ensemble is documented, including many world premieres and rediscoveries, both in the field of orchestra and in opera and oratorio. For example, the recording of Etienne Nicolas Méhul’s Opéra Comique “L’Irato ou l’Emporté” was awarded the prestigious French “Diapason” prize in October 2006. In summer 2008 two CDs with works by Joseph Martin Kraus were released on the Austrian label Phoenix Edition. On the one hand a selection of secular cantatas with the soprano Simone Kermes, on the other hand the incidental music to “Amphytrion”. The latest recording with Christmas cantatas from Assisi with soprano Ruth Ziesak, alto Ingeborg Danz and Reinhold Friedrich was released at the end of October 2008. In the 2008/2009 season the ensemble l’arte del mondo is looking forward to collaborating with artists such as Daniel Hope, Reinhold Friedrich, Simone Kermes, Florin Cezar Ouatu, Ahmet Özhan and Uri Caine. Future projects will take the ensemble l’arte del mondo to the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Deutschlandfunk Cologne, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Schwetzinger Festspiele.
