Cristian Gutiérrez

Cristian was born in Santiago, Chile. He studied classical guitar with
the maestro Ernesto Quezada, in the Conservatory of Music of the Faculty
of Arts of the University of Chile, finishing with the highest mark in
this area and the first place in his generation. In 1999 he was the only
one recipient of the prize that the "Municipal Theater of Chile" awards
to young national talents. He began studying lute, vihuela, and baroque
guitar, and was later awarded with a scholarship of his country to
travel to Spain for advanced studies with Juan Carlos Rivera, and Xavier
Díaz-Latorre, finishing his career with the highest academic
distinction in Spain. He has participated in courses and seminars of
early music, having lessons and working several times under the
direction of the specialist Hopkinson Smith.
He has made numerous recordings including award winning "A tocar, a
cantar, a baylar" based on the anthology of colonial music by the
musicologist Samuel Claro. He has taken part in recordings for the radio
University of Chile, radio Beethoven and radio of the University of
Santiago and live emissions for Spain, France, England, Holland and
Portugal.
For several years he has done outstanding work as soloist and member
of diverse groupings, playing with such out-standing personalities as
Monica Huggett, Bruce Dickey, Gabriel Garrido, Manfredo Kraemer, Pedro
Estevan, Michael Chance, Rodrigo del Pozo, Ventura Rico, etc. He has
performed in Chile, Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Czech
Republic, Spain, Switzerland, Uruguay, Greece, Israel, Italy, Korea, the
United States, the Netherlands, Norway, France and Portugal.
