Christoph Sommer, born in Lutherstadt Wittenberg (Germany) began his studies at the "Koninklijk Conservatorium" in Den Haag with Nigel North, Mike Fentross and Joachim Held. During that time he also gained experience through occasional lessons with Hopkinson Smith, Eduardo Eguez,  Christina Pluhar and Charles Toet. He participated in several Early Music-projects coached by artists like Sebastian Marq, Christina Pluhar, Fabio Bonizzoni and Patrick Ayrton. In 2008 he got selected for the Ambronay-Academy under the musical direction of Jean Tubery. Past engagements include concerts with the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Staatsorkester Hamburg as well as the Elyma Ensemble under the direction of Gabriel Garrido.
His participation in several Early Music-ensembles made him giving concerts in Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, France and Chile.
In September 2010 he started his Master studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Esmuc) in Barcelona with his teachers Xavier Diaz Latorre and Mónica Pustilnik.
Christoph Sommer is one of the founders and only instrumentalist of the rising vocal ensemble „I Sospiranti“.
